4th Annual Safety Day

On July 3, 2007, Mid-State Communications held its fourth annual Safety Day. All non-emergency operations were shut down and the work day was dedicated to safety seminars, discussions and equipment inspections. This day is in addition to weekly safety meetings, tailgate safety meetings and pre climb safety meetings.

From 7:00 am until 4:00pm

Agenda

  

7:00 – 7:30  Tailgate meeting – Introduction (Rudy)

                                           

       Tower Rescue:

-   100% Tie Off

-  PPE (safety glasses, Hard Hats, etc.)

-  OPE (Body Harness, Lanyards, etc.)

- OPE will be inspected before climbing on structures

 

Temperatures:

-  Expected high of 90 Degrees

-  Watch fellow riggers (on and off tower) for signs of dehydration.

 

Unsafe Acts:

-    Anyone can call a work stoppage if an unsafe act is witnessed

-  Everyone will be called together to explain and take corrective measures before returning back to work.

7:30 – 9:00  Safety Equipment – (Gene, Rudy, Bob)

 

Note: Any Person waiting on their body harness to be

Inspected will need to report to Gene of compass

Orientation training

 

              Safety body harnesses (inspection and inventory) (Rudy)

-  Positioning Lanyards

- Fall arrest Lanyards

-  Splitters

- Carabineers

-  Bolt bags

 

              Rescue Bags (inspection and inventory) (Gene)

  Location of Rescue bags in same location on each vehicle (Bob)

         Slings, Blocks, Hooks, and working rope (inspection) (Supervisors, Rudy, Gene)

             Cap-stand (inspection) (Supervisor, Bob)

             Post Trip Logbook (Inspection) (Bob)

             Fire Extinguisher (inspection and inventory) Tag 2008 (Bob)

 First Aid Kit (inventory and re-supply) (Supervisors, Bob)

 MSDS Folders (inventory) (Rudy, Gene, and Bob)

 OSHA Warning signage (inventory) (Rudy, Gene, Bob)

            Tag-IN Tag-OUT Kits (inventory) (Rudy, Gene, Bob)

 

 9:00 – 9:15 Break

  

9:15 – 12:45 Group Activity Training (Station to Station)

 

Actual hands-on tower Rescue and Rappelling using 100% Tie Off at all times (Gene, Rudy)

 De-rig Training Stations

                         

12:45 – 2:00 Lunch

 

2:00 – 4:00  Continued Activity Training (Station to Station)

 

2:00 – 3:00 Forklift Operation and Safety Course

 

3:00 - 4:00 After Safety Course all Tower Riggers

 will report to the warehouse for Hands On forklift training (Bob)
