2nd Annual Safety Day On July 14, 2006,
Mid-State Communications held its second annual Safety Day. All
non-emergency operations were shut down and the work day was
dedicated to safety seminars, discussions and equipment inspections.
This special day, in addition to our weekly safety
meetings, pre-climb safety meetings, safety manual and other safety
programs reinforce our commitment to safety each and every day.
Our first safety day held last year in July and
was such a success we decided to make it an annual event.
Seminars included this year:
Rescue training and refresher training
Safe use of ladders and step ladders
Knife safety
Inspecting your safety gear
Safe rappelling methods

Safety Inspections
Although safety equipment is routinely inspected
by supervisors, this mass inspection of all safety related equipment
in front of everyone reinforces the focus and necessity on the the
routine inspections. Just some of the items inspected were climbing
harnesses, rescue bags, ropes, slings, blocks, hooks, fire
extinguishers, hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, first
aid kits and RF personal monitors.

You
cannot learn on an empty stomach so its Lunch Time !

Lunch was sirloin steak, clams, salt potatoes and
salad. Yum!
Additional Training
The schedule allowed for two additional non safety related
training segments.

Above Senior Radio Technician Paul Pietras spoke on wattmeter
usage as it relates to two way radio antenna system troubleshooting.

Project Managers Rudy Stauder, far right and Gene Bevers, near
right are training others on tower lighting systems.

Gene points out components in a strobe lighting system.
