Skidmore College boosts safety with Mass Notification System

Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs NY, has purchased a Whelen WPS2903 Mass Notification system from Mid-State Communications & Electronics. This multi hazard alerting system is being purchased to alert by voice, college faculty, staff and students of emergencies and other situations on and around the campus that require immediate notification and action.

New York Mills picks Omni Alert Siren

NY Mills FD is replacing their old air horn system with a new Whelen Omni Alert 04 Electronic Siren from Mid-State Communications.

Note: This siren is very unobtrusive and almost unnoticeable from the ground.

Schoharie County chooses Mid-State for its County Wide Flood warning system.

Schoharie County is using a combination of warning sirens to alert residents in the flood plain of potential flooding. In the extremely unlikely event of a dam failure or other flooding event all sirens can be set off with a single short burst "all call" via radio from the county E911 control center as well as a backup site. The majority of the approximately $400,000 system has sirens that are Tone Alert but 3 sirens are Voice Alert. The Voice Alert Sirens are used near camp grounds where campers may be from outside the area and not aware of the purpose of the tone alert. The Voice Siren will announce a prerecorded message explaining the situation and provide instructions. The siren systems are equipped with battery backup in the event of a power failure.

The Flood Warning Siren System is just one of the county's public alerting methods and is a part of its overall emergency preparedness plan. More information on this can be found at the Schoharie County web site.

The media (3 TV stations), county officials and various dignitaries observe the pole installation. (It must have been a slow news day.)
