Established: 1957

Mid-State Communications has worked on quite a few two way radios in its 49 year history.

Below is a Motorola FMTRU80-12DC2(A)1D Serial 83171-SP1

This VHF High Band radio belonged to Oneida County Mutual Aid.

This unit was manufactured August 20, 1953.

Oneida County had the first VHF High Band repeater system in the country.  The SP1, special designation, was due to the frequency spread between transmit and receive of 154.370 receive and 161.250 transmit and is still in use today. The original license was about 1949.

The paper work shows this unit was taken out of service in 1980.

The radio operated on Vacuum Tubes which required high voltage.

The high voltage was generated from the vehicles 12 Volt DC power system by this Carter Motor Company Dynamotor.

The specifications on the Dynamotor are 11.8 VDC and 17 Amps input and an output of 420VDC and 0.280 Amps.
